OK, so maybe I got restless during the two-hour run time of “Haunted Mansion.” But in the end I did care about the characters and their well-being. The film gives her background but does not explain why the ball is so big - almost beach-ball size? (It’s roomier than it looks, Leota assures.)Īmong the cameos are comic appearances by Winona Ryder, Dan Levy and Hasan Minhaj. In the ride, I never worried about that character being inside the ball. It sounds fun, right? But Leto is all but unrecognizable as the villainous hatbox ghost, and Curtis is a supporting player as Leota, trapped in a crystal ball. You can see why Academy Award winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto would be drawn to the project. I appreciated a couple of architecture subplots such as the hidden round room that’s home to Madame Leota and the unexpected turns taken in the stretching room.ĭoom buggies, dueling brothers, the ballroom, the endless hallway and staircases and Master Gracey all get screen time eventually.
